This Is How I Roll: The Roleplaying Thread

Post by Mobias on Tue Jul 15, 2014 11:24 am

I was wondering if anyone else does any sort of roleplay, especially tabletop type stuff. If you do, and have a story, anecdote or a question/comment, are looking for a partner/partners/group, post it here!

-----

DMing my third physical tabletop game tomorrow (as opposed to running it over Skype) and first time using a homebrew system. Still got a lot of flavour text to finish, but at least it's all mapped now! I'll be sure to post how it goes when I'm done. I've actually ran this exact adventure before, but it didn't get very far due to the Ranger and Wizard dicking around with a magic instrument while the Bard and Thief bitched at each other, causing the Paladin to bail.

It was a bit of a mess.

I played DnD once at a friend's house, and I haven't gone back to his house since we last played. I'm pretty sure we both were Rouges.

I tend to favour Bards myself, but my current character is a Cleric of a Bardic god, so she gets the bard abilities of Countersong and Bardic Knowledge.

The game I was going to run got postponed due to one of the players being called into work, but the game I got to play on Wednesday was great. My cleric, Joan, got magic scale mail armour magically disguised as a vest.

Artist's rendition. Vest not pictured. Click for fullsize.

Rabbot DM'd a D&D 3.5 game last night, second time for that campaign. I got to play as my new halfling (hobbit) rogue, Thorngauge. I got some REALLY good stealth attack rolls as we raided a goblin camp (they had been attacking travelers' caravans) while our leader, a fighter, just waltzed into their camp and began talking, very much like the Doctor or a Fletch-type character. He distracted pretty much every goblin there, including the hobgoblins and the ogre that were in charge. Our kobold (dragon-person) wizard took out a lot of them with the Sleep spell (hella-useful for a level one spell), though eventually our luck ran out, and we got out by the skin of our teeth, me with 3HP out of 11, and our leader down to -8 (meaning he was mortally wounded and bleeding out, but our healer managed to stabilize him). I walked out of it with a shit-ton of gold and a magic cloak made from silk.

Feeling pretty good about the G6 game I'll (hopefully) be running today. Going to record portions of it over my phone (player permission has been obtained) and I'll post the results on YouTube or something. G6 is a mutation of the simple D6 System used in the Ghostbusters RPG system, which eventually became the D6 System used in West End's Star Wars RPG. The early version used in Ghostbusters is...kiiiind of a mess. So I changed some mechanics, added and discarded others, and I think I have something playable in a beta stage.

Also, I'm considering getting this for my D&D cleric character, Joan. Compare with the portrait earlier.

Ended up getting an advance on some paid editing work, so I bought that figurine! It won't be here in time for D&D tomorrow, but it'll be here for my next game.

The figure came a few weeks ago! It's tiny and plastic and very rad.

Our campaign of two years concluded two weeks ago; we defeated the big bad, saved the Empire, and became barons of our chosen lands. My cleric, Joan, lived to be 87 and died in a pyrotechnic wheelchair stage-diving accident. My bard, Turcrist, lived to be 147 and died when he crashed his pirate ship into a landlocked tower. 84% out him made it out of the boat. His final words were "84%? Good enough."

Next week, we begin a new campaign in the same setting, flashing-forward by 250 years. I'll be playing a dual-class rogue/ranger, the descendant of my Bard.

This week, I hosted the game at my house and DM'd. Our regular DM acted like a whiny little bitch, sulking when he didn't get his way and just being a dick. We're all kind of tired of his shit, so we're going to start a second gaming night without his ass.

Check your local gaming/hobby shops, or go to a forum with a Looking for Group thread, if you wanna try playing online. Playing online has advantages and disadvantages, like playing in real life.

The only nearby Hobby shop does not carry any DnD products that I recall, they mostly have tabletop, Models, remote Cars, and Air preasure guns.(I think thats they were)

Although if my memory serves me well my local Barnes and Noble carried some DnD Rule Books and some of the Minitures.

Doing a side-adventure (jokingly called DLC to the main game) while our DM finishes the next part of the main story. Playing my cleric's elder brother, a Chaotic Neutral Paladin by the name of Eddie.

He beats motherfuckers to death with his guitar.

I like playing as Eddie.

I would to play a tabletop RPG game too as opposed to playing video game adaptions. I like to try some of the White Wolf games first, such as Vampire: The Masquerade.

Unfortunately, I don't think there are any up for sale around, nor the people here would be interested in roleplaying much.
